The short answer
Solar panel cleaning in Sydney is priced per panel. $22 a panel on a single storey, $28 on a double, $30 on three storeys. From 10 panels up you get a volume discount, and the cleaning part never goes below $220. Then there's a flat $50 setup fee on every solar job, for the purified water system and the roof gear, and your region's callout fee. GST is included and the total is rounded to the nearest $10.
So the smallest possible job, a handful of panels on a single storey in the Inner West, is $270. A typical 20-panel system on a single storey works out around $410 before callout. The examples below show the working.
What moves the price up or down
Number of panels
The base. Count them from the ground or check your installer's paperwork. A 6.6 kW system is usually 16 to 20 panels.
Storeys
$22 a panel single storey, $28 double, $30 three storey. The higher the roof, the more time we spend on ropes and ladders.
Volume discount
10 to 19 panels: 10% off. 20 to 29: 18% off. 30 to 49: 25% off. 50 or more: 30% off. Applied to every panel, not just the extra ones.
Roof access
Normal access is the base price. Hard access adds 20%. Very hard access, like a steep or complex roof, adds 40%.
Setup fee
A flat $50 on every solar job, whatever the size. It's never discounted.
Bird proofing on the same visit
Add bird proofing and both services get 10% off. Clean panels stay clean when the pigeons can't get under them.
Callout fee by region
Charged once per visit on top of the setup fee. Never discounted.

Is it worth it? An honest answer
Rain does clean panels that are tilted more than about 10 to 15 degrees. Independent Australian research puts typical dust loss at around 1%, which is small. If your panels are on a normal pitched roof, away from trees and the coast, with no birds, you may not need a clean at all. We'd rather tell you that than take your money.
Where cleaning genuinely pays is the stuff rain won't shift. Bird droppings, because one dropping shades a whole cell and can create a hot spot. Lichen, which grips on and spreads. Coastal salt film. Bushfire ash. Sticky sap and pollen from overhanging trees. Flat or low-tilt panels where water just sits. You'll often hear 5 to 15% quoted for what a clean recovers. That's a general industry figure, not a promise, and it depends entirely on how dirty the panels are.
A quick test: look at your panels from the ground on a sunny afternoon. If you can see spots, streaks or green patches, it's time. If they look clean, they probably are.

Why we don't recommend doing it yourself
Tap water leaves mineral marks on the glass as it dries, which is the opposite of what you want. A metal scraper or a pressure washer can scratch the glass or damage the seals. And a wet, sloped roof is where people get hurt. We use purified water, a plastic scraper and a harness. That's what you're paying for.
How paying works
Nothing up front. We do the job, send your before and after photos, then invoice you by email and text. You have 7 days to pay by bank transfer, PayID or cash. No card surcharges, no deposit, no cancellation fee, and no charge for a wasted trip. The price in your quote is the price you pay. It only changes if the property is different to what you told us, and we always call you before we start. Our own mistakes are never passed on. All prices include GST.
Common questions about solar panel cleaning cost
Is GST included?
Yes. Every price here and in the calculator includes GST.
What is the $50 setup fee for?
The purified water filter system and the roof safety gear we bring to every solar job. It's flat, so it matters less the bigger the system.
Do I need to switch the system off?
No. It stays on. We clean any time of day.
Can you clean ground-mounted panels?
Yes, same per-panel pricing. Commercial sites are priced on request and we have a SWMS ready.
How often should I clean them?
Every 6 to 12 months for most Sydney homes. Every 3 months if you're near the beach, under trees or have birds. Summer is when panels make the most power, so a spring clean makes sense.
Will the price change on the day?
Only if the roof or panel count is different to what you told us. We re-price it and call you before we start.
Do you check the panels for damage?
We do a visual check for cracks. We don't inspect wiring. If we see a problem we tell you and point you to an electrician.
